I believe that most of the zip files are going away. There hasn't been any effort to purge zipfiles from older shows, but I'm pretty sure they're not being added to new ones. So whatever reason there might have been (probably had to do with the low uptake numbers for the Ogg files) is mostly irrelevant now.

I've been begging for streaming Ogg for years; it sounds so much better than even VBR MP3, and uses less bandwidth to boot, but that hasn't happened for what I can only assume is the same reason.

A few years ago, Ogg was pretty obscure, and the Archive was ahead of the curve even offering it. Now a lot of the rest of the world has caught up; any desktop system can use Ogg, several use it as their primary audio format, and a large percentage of handheld devices support it as well.

Bottom line, though, if you want to easily grab a batch of files, whether it be Ogg, Flac or even mushy MP3, you really need to get a download manager like DownloadThemAll.

They're not being created by default, but they can still be generated on demand for any show. VBR mp3 only though. Not sure what the motivation is behind not doing it for oggs (or for not streaming oggs either).
